Light Year II

Light Year is a series of photography and film work that constructs a stage where personal memories and universal experiences of time and space converge. Whilst in keeping with the classical concept of the medium — the art form of time, photography, this project bears no relation to the idea of capturing the “fleeting moment”. Instead of presupposing an active quest within the structure of time, these images offer a meditative practice of stillness and timelessness, a resting place for our constant flow of thoughts, desires, and actions. Here, the captured domestic scenes appear to be “lived space”, which, according to the existentialists, are produced through our very existence and only emerge at the moment when we inhabit or occupy it. The images are meandered and shrouded in the haze of the photographic process and are distilled and transformed into a feeling of disjunction, autonomy, and ultimately of perpetuation. These works are continually balancing between disclosure and concealment, between enticement and rejection. They support our secret need for intimacy and privacy and allow suspicion of mystery and ineffability. The images hence are in the form of a diary, a mindful gaze of the world around us, and possibly an antidote to the daily flow of attention-seeking images in the media.
